Help
Search Engine The site provides a search window, and “advanced search” and “search tips” links. A medical thesaurus is available to assist with searching for uncommon words. Within a chapter, search terms are highlighted in the text, making them much easier to find. Also within a chapter, the “Next Hit” button takes you directly to the next occurrence of a search term.
Contents The contents are organized by body system and can be browsed by clicking on the “Contents” tab on the left side of the screen.
What’s New The “What’s New” section provides concise summaries of topic chapters that have been updated during the past six months.
References The reference numbers in each chapter are live links to the reference section at the end of each chapter. The full references include the PubMed ID number (PMID), which, in most cases, is a direct link to the related MEDLINE abstract.
Best DX / Best RX The descriptions of most common medical conditions include a “Best DX/Best RX” section which summarized the recommended management of that condition.
DrugInfo/Medscape The DrugInfo link provides drug information and a drug interaction checker. The database contains some unique Canadian drugs and brand names. DrugInfo is part of Medscape, which is a public medical resource from the same publisher. Access is free, but registration is required.
CME The CME link is currently only available to individual subscribers. We are investigating the possibility of making this available to all Virtual Library subscribers.
