• Provide connections to the Internet  

Standard Telephone Line

• Also known as "Plain Old Telephone Service" (POTS)
• Computer connected by a modem device
• May be the only available service in rural communities 

Cable

• Service may deteriorate if there are multiple active users in a neighbourhood 

ADSL

• A high-speed connection using telephone lines
• Service is limited to a maximum distance from a central point 

Satellite

• High-speed for downloads, but low-speed for uploads
• May be available in some rural communities
