Service and Warranty

What happens when things go wrong!

Service

Basic Service Contract

  • Read the basic service agreement carefully before purchase

Extended Service Contract

  • Evaluate the need for an extended service contract carefully
  • Most computers are pre-tested ("burnt in") before leaving the factory
  • If a computer component is going to fail, it will usually do so within the first year
  • If a computer is more than three years old, consider replacing it instead of fixing it

Warranty

  • Usually covers parts and labour for the first year
  • Determine who will provide the service before you purchase the machine
  • Consider dealing with a vendor who services what they sell

Dell Computers

Service

  • Basic service is for one year of next-business-day on-site service
  • May not be available in isolated rural communities!
